O tema esta semana é no restaurante - The theme this week is the in the restaurant.

Idioms esta semana - these are always interesting, and we can learn some new words from within the expressions.  But take care when using them!  

A mulher quer-se pequenina como a sardinha - women, like sardines, are best appreciated small
Foi por águas abaixo - it didn't happen, was not successful (lit. went underwater)
Ficou em águas de bacalhau - it didn't happen, was not successful (lit. remained in cod fishing waters)
Fiel amigo - cod (lit. loyal friend)
Apertar o bacalhau - shake hands (lit. squeeze the cod)

AND because we learn really well from stories and seeing examples of correct language, every week I put together 3 stories or dialogues on the week’s theme with examples of the week’s words and phrases in a useful context. I strongly believe that we can learn a lot from reading, these mini-texts with translations are just the right length for you to digest easily. (look at the translations first if that helps!)

João: Boa noite. Uma mesa para dois, por favor.

Empregado: Boa noite. Sim, claro. Aqui está uma mesa junto à janela.

Maria: Obrigada.

Empregado: Aqui têm o menu. O que desejam beber?

João: Eu quero uma água sem gás.

Maria: Para mim, um sumo de laranja, por favor.

Empregado: Muito bem. E para comer?

Maria: Eu quero sopa de legumes e frango grelhado.

João: Para mim, uma salada e peixe grelhado com arroz.

Empregado: Excelente escolha. Desejam sobremesa?

Maria: Sim, quero uma salada de fruta.

João: Eu não quero sobremesa, mas quero um café.

Empregado: Muito bem. Já trago o pedido.

Maria: Este restaurante é muito agradável.

João: Sim, e os preços são bons.

A2 Jantar no restaurante

Ana: Este restaurante é muito agradável. Gostas do ambiente?

Pedro: Sim, gosto muito. É calmo e o serviço é rápido.

Ana: Também gosto. O menu tem pratos interessantes.

Pedro: Vou pedir bacalhau com batatas. E tu, o que escolhes?

Ana: Escolho massa com legumes. Parece deliciosa.

Pedro: Também podemos pedir uma entrada para partilhar.

Ana: Boa ideia. Podemos pedir queijo fresco.

Empregado: Já sabem o que desejam?

Pedro: Sim. Queremos queijo fresco, um bacalhau com batatas e uma massa com legumes.

Empregado: Muito bem. Desejam sobremesa depois?

Ana: Sim, quero bolo de chocolate.

Pedro: E eu quero gelado.

Ana: Gosto deste restaurante. A comida é boa e os preços são justos

B1+ Um jantar entre amigos

Ricardo: Gosto bastante deste restaurante. O ambiente é confortável e a decoração cria uma boa

atmosfera.

Sofia: Também gosto. O serviço é atencioso e o empregado explica os pratos com detalhe.

Ricardo: Hoje vou escolher arroz de marisco porque parece muito apetitoso.

Sofia: Prefiro carne, então vou pedir o bife com legumes. A apresentação dos pratos aqui é sempre

excelente.

Ricardo: Além disso, as doses são generosas e os preços são razoáveis.

Sofia: Sim, e é um bom lugar para jantar com amigos e conversar com calma.

Ricardo: Depois do prato principal, quero pedir sobremesa. O bolo de chocolate parece ótimo.

Sofia: Boa escolha. Eu vou pedir fruta fresca e café.

Ricardo: Vale a pena vir aqui. A comida e o ambiente são sempre agradáveis.

Maria: I would like vegetable soup and grilled chicken.

João: For me, a salad and grilled fish with rice.

Waiter: Excellent choice. Would you like dessert?

Maria: Yes, I would like a fruit salad.

João: I do not want dessert, but I would like a coffee.

Waiter: Very well. I will bring your order now.

Maria: This restaurant is very pleasant.

João: Yes, and the prices are good.

A2 Dinner at the restaurant

Ana: This restaurant is very pleasant. Do you like the atmosphere?

Pedro: Yes, I like it a lot. It is calm and the service is quick.

Ana: I like it too. The menu has interesting dishes.

Pedro: I’m going to order cod with potatoes. And you, what do you choose?

Ana: I choose pasta with vegetables. It looks delicious.

Pedro: We can also order a starter to share.

Ana: Good idea. We can order fresh cheese.

Waiter: Do you already know what you would like?

Pedro: Yes. We would like fresh cheese, cod with potatoes, and pasta with vegetables.

Waiter: Very well. Would you like dessert afterwards?

Ana: Yes, I want chocolate cake.

Pedro: And I want ice cream.

Ana: I like this restaurant. The food is good and the prices are fair.

B1+Dinner with friends

Ricardo: I quite like this restaurant. The atmosphere is comfortable and the decoration creates a nice setting.

Sofia: I prefer meat, so I’m going to order steak with vegetables. The presentation of the dishes here is always excellent.

Ricardo: Besides that, the portions are generous and the prices are reasonable.

Sofia: Yes, and it is a good place to have dinner with friends and talk calmly.

Ricardo: After the main course, I want to order dessert. The chocolate cake looks great.

Sofia: Good choice. I am going to order fresh fruit and coffee.
